Introducing The Chevrolet Cruze

Well, sort of.

General Motors announced on Tuesday that the replacement vehicle for the Chevy Cobalt will be called the Cruze, pronounced cruise. The car is expected to make its worldwide debut at this October’s Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l’Automobile) and be produced for global markets including North America.

GM has slated that the Cruze will be produced at its Lordstown, Ohio plant alongside that of the Cobalt which itself will fade away one or two years later. At just over fifteen feet long, the compact will be powered by a new 1.4L turbocharged four cylinder engine and seat five adults.

The platform for the Cruze will also power the next generation Saturn Astra as well as GM’s long awaited hybrid Chevy Volt. The Cruze will initially be available in Europe in Spring 2009 and elsewhere later in the year.

Auto Trends has yet to receive photographs of the all-new model, but when we do, we’ll post those pictures here for your viewing pleasure.
