A Fully Integrated iPhone Accessory For Mercedes Models

Mercedes iPhone CradleApple’s iPhone has quickly become the standard hand held device for technophiles the world over. Just one year after its launch the company is launching its 3G (or third generation model) and at a price of $199 it is within the reach of the vast majority of consumers.

With this in mind, auto manufacturers are scrambling to develop ways to integrate the iPhone into their latest models. Lots of aftermarket parts are being created for older model vehicles, but if you want complete integration without some cumbersome add-on getting in the way, then your choices are few.

Mercedes has developed a cradle that can hold the iPhone in place while driving and can fit nicely between the driver and front passenger seat. Instead of fumbling for the controls while driving, the docked iPhone can be controlled by means of the steering wheel, allowing the driver to access all phone and audio functions.

Expected To Sell For Less Than $400

Starting this August, Mercedes will offer the integration kit for previous model-year vehicles, while all 2009 models will have Bluetooth and an optional music interface already integrated. The iPhone cradle is an optional accessory that is expected to sell for under $400; perhaps it will also be included as part of a complete sound package on some models.
