Lexus Issues Safety Recall On Select Models

The Toyota Motor Corporation has issued a recall for select number of 2006, 2007 and 2008 Lexus models. The vehicles involved in the recall may include those with an ethanol fuel capability -- possible corrosion problems could cause fuel leakage.
When it comes to the perfect blend of automotive quality and luxury, the Lexus brand is the benchmark by which all other makes are judged. For two decades the Lexus name has been the best definition of a luxury car line.
That being said, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that parent Toyota Motor Corporation will need to issue the occasional recall, something they are planning to do with select models.
Select 2006 to 2008 Models Recalled
According to Toyota sources, the company is recalling certain 2006 through 2008 model year GS300/350, IS250/350, and LS460/460L vehicles, having determined that some ethanol fuels with a low moisture content may corrode the internal surface of the fuel delivery pipes. If this condition occurs, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) in the combination meter may illuminate. Over time, the corrosion may create a pinhole in the fuel delivery pipes resulting in fuel leakage.
For their part, Lexus dealers will replace the fuel delivery pipes with newly designed components. No other Lexus or Toyota vehicles are involved.
Notification By Regular Mail
Lexus will inform owners of the involved vehicles with a Safety Recall notification via first-class mail beginning in late January 2009. Owners are requested to contact their local Lexus dealer for diagnosis and repair at no charge.
Customers with questions or concerns should contact the Lexus Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-255-3987.
Stellar Quality Nonetheless
For Lexus, the recall represents a blip in an otherwise stellar quality level recognized by industry experts including J.D. Power & Associates who routinely rates most Lexus models “Among the Best” in areas of Initial Quality, Performance and Design, and Predicted Reliability.
