A hybrid option comes to Acura.

July 4th EcoBoost Debut Possible?

When the Ford Motor Companys first EcoBoost engines roll out in the Lincoln MKS this summer, applicable models will sport Fords trademark green leaf and the word EcoBoost and exterior badging. When the Ford Motor Company's first EcoBoost engines rolls out in the Lincoln MKS this summer, applicable models will sport Ford's trademark green leaf and the word EcoBoost on exterior badging. EcoBoost will also appear on the all new Lincoln MKT crossover when it is introduced late summer, eventually becoming the dominate engine type across Ford's product line.

I’ve been leaning on some of my Ford contacts to keep me in the loop regarding several of its upcoming models as well as what I believe will be one of the most significant engineering enhancements finding its way under most Ford, Lincoln and Mercury hoods over the coming years: EcoBoost.

Lincoln MKS Will Introduce EcoBoost To The World

EcoBoost is Ford’s new line of direct-injection twin-turbocharged engines which will be built at North American plants and power a number of the company’s current and future models.  I’ve recently learned that the first EcoBoost engines will roll out in late June or early July, finding their way into the 2010 Lincoln MKS. After that, the all new Lincoln MKT crossover will also roll out with EcoBoost, with momentum continuing to build.

The significant advantages found in Ecoboost is that they offer more power and better fuel economy than similar sized engines. For example the 3.5L V-6 EcoBoost found in the 2010 MKS will get 355 horsepower and offer 350 lb.-ft of torque, which is equivalent to what the company’s 4.6L standard V-8 engine offers. But, the engine will achieve these numbers without sacrificing fuel economy.

In addition, EcoBoost is much more friendlier environmentally as a lower level of emissions are released thanks to direct injection. When all is said and done, the new Lincoln models will be more powerful, emit fewer emissions while getting at least 17 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.

New Ford Taurus Is Coming

In addition to EcoBoost and the roll out of the all new Lincoln MKT, Ford has other models set for roll out. Most recently, the all new Ford Mustang was released and soon it will be joined by the next generation Ford Taurus, a true full sized sedan that looks to be the best Taurus yet.  Ford says that the 2010 Taurus will begin to appear in Ford showrooms this June.

By 2010, several smaller Fords will hit the market including the Ford Fiesta which is currently being tested on America’s roadways in advance of its pending release.
