2011 Honda Accord Specs & Overview
For more than three decades, the Honda Accord has attracted and served a loyal following of car buyers, standing on its well noted position as a quality, reliability and value leader. The Accord was introduced in 1976 and followed the subcompact Civic to the U.S. market. The initial Accord was a compact two-door hatchback — additional body styles and girth would come later.
The current generation Honda Accord was introduced in 2008, the eighth generation for what now represents a midsize sedan and coupe. A tall wagon or crossover model, the Honda Accord Crosstour, is also available. But, for this overview the sedan and coupe only are covered.
Midsize Market
Very few midsize models offer both a sedan and a coupe in the U.S. market with the Nissan Altima being one other model that does. The Honda Accord is the second best selling midsize model in America, just behind the Toyota Camry and ahead of the Altima.
Other competitors include the Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Malibu, Hyundai Sonata, Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Buick Regal, Volkswagen Passat, Mazda 6, Mitsubishi Galant, Subaru Legacy and Kia Optima. Like the Camry and Altima, the Accord is no longer the value leader as cars from Korean manufacturers and even Ford, Chrysler and GM are generally cheaper.
Accord Offerings
The base price for both the sedan and coupe are above $21,000, representing the higher end of the price point for this segment. The Accord has one of the best resale values of any car on the market, thus it can command a slightly higher price. Still, the standard amenities are worth considering including wheel mounted audio and cruise controls; driver and front passenger active head restraints; air-conditioning; ABS; stability control; front and side curtain airbags; and traction control.
The base Accord LX-S coupe comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels; 160-watt AM/FM/6-Disc In-Dash audio system; USB audio interface; and the standard amenities offered with the base sedan. The top of the line coupe is powered by a 271-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired with a short throw 6-speed manual transmission. This model features 18-inch alloy wheels and a reardeck spoiler.
Coupe Speed
Yes, this car is fast, clocked by Auto Rivals as going from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. And it is pricey too: with navigation system you’ll pay north of $32,000 for a fully loaded model.
Normally, we’d recommend you considering Acura, Honda’s premium division for a similar model, but the TSX is available only in sedan and wagon configurations.
Ohio Players
Like the Camry and Altima, the Accord is built in America. Honda’s Marysville, Ohio, manufacturing plant is the oldest continuously operating foreign owned factory, demonstrating Honda’s commitment to the American workforce.
