It has been decades since the pony car wars has been this engaging. With the Dodge Challenger now on the market and the relaunch of the Chevy Camaro just months away, Ford is doing its part to make sure that it protects its #1 position with the Mustang.

New Competition For Ford

Next spring, the next generation Ford Mustang makes its debut, a model that the big Blue Oval hopes will maintain the company’s lockhold on the pony car market. For the last few years Ford has had that segment all to itself as GM withdrew the Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro from the market. The Challenger, which is now entering its first full year of production is seen as an additional threat, one that Ford plans to meet head on.

To drum up support (buzz) for the all-new Mustang, Ford has created a new section on its website dedicated to the Mustang. This page invites Mustang fans to submit short stories (250 words or less) and their favorite photo to Ford for consideration. where 25 finalists will be selected and Mustang fans will pick the winner.

Win A Trip To L.A. and a New Mustang

What’s in it for you? Perhaps plenty. Ford will give away one of the new cars to the winner and invite the winner to this November’s Los Angeles Auto Show where the new Mustang will be introduced. Pretty cool, eh?

The contest gets its start on August 27th with no word yet when it will end.

Ford last redesigned the Mustang for the 2005 model year. The current model takes its styling cues from the fastback Mustangs circa 1970; the next generation model will reportedly maintain some of that styling while adding new features to keep the Mustang fresh.
